Happy (belated) Holidays
So, I was sitting here, relaxing after new years, watching one of the shrek movies in Spanish, when I realized that I hadn’t written in a while. It’s been a busy week or so. Lots of my classes wrapped up in the middle of the month, and soon I was off to Mexico to meet up with the rest of my family. Playa del Carmen was a really good time, the beach was awesome and it’s always good to see the people that raised me. Now, after a week of the usual running around a South American city, I’m getting ready to go camping in the south of Argentina. I have 2 weeks off until some of my classes start again, and I’m using that to go live in a tent by the beach for a while. I know, it sucks. I’m hoping to see a couple different places down there, roughing it and taking in the local culture. Lots of people have told me that the Argentines (and Uruguayans) are a lot different when you get outside of the big city. Looking at my other trips, I’ve found this to bee pretty true so far. So, I’m looking forward to whatever I might see.
In the theme of nature and all that natural goodness, I found this relatively interesting. My favorites out of all of them are the penguins and the polar bear “You Can Held” ads, though I’m not so sure, despite their animal-saving intentions, that they aren’t a little offensive to actual homeless people. (Sorry, the article said “homeless individuals.” Is that political correctness or are they really including homeless animals? [Idiocracy note: "Okay, sir, this is to figure out what your aptitude's good at and get you a jail job while you're being a particular individual in jail." We're getting closer and closer to that movie being true.]) The WWF ones cold be offendsive to people who who don’t believe in evolutions, though I’m really not too worried about offending those people. The “story” ones reminded me of Shrek when I saw them, which was immediately followed by the movie coming up on TV, which was kinda creepy. Some of the them we’re a little too bloody (See: Rabbit; Bear), but I guess you gotta do whatever you gotta do to get people’s attention. The next questions need to be about how all these extreme ads really raise environmental awareness, and whether or not that increased awareness will lead to actual a results. Wow, that was pretty cynical. Sorry.
On a lighter note: Happy 2009, stay up and, umm, save a whale or something. Later.
